Cruise: Inner Hebrides Big 5 Autumn Wildlife Cruise

I was looking for an adventure to take me away from the stresses of the world and the cruise certainly achieved that. I think the crew and fellow passengers were mainly responsible. Our captain, James was so welcoming from the very first day. Orsie, the 'Beastie' expert, was absolutely lovely. So knowledgeable, sensitive, friendly and kind. I defy anyone not to be inspired by her enthusiastic guidance. Poppy, our steward onboard was a whirlwind of activity and attention to detail. Her sparkling personality was a joy. Andreas, the chef produced sumptuous dishes of startling taste and originality. How he managed in such a small galley kitchen was a miracle and with Poppy's original table decorations every meal was an event. So nice to eat with Orsie and James who kept the lively conversation going too. After a first morning I opted out of a shore visit in the torrential rain. I felt at my age I wouldn't be able to cope, but really shouldn't have worried. The others came back on the tender, dripping wet so I think I made the right decision. But in the afternoon I did go ashore with Orsie and two other guests. We had a wonderful time and with Orsie's help and encouragement I didn't miss out on any other shore visit. The magnificent scenery was what I had been looking forward to most and it definitely didn't disappoint. In fact the weather improved every minute after the first day. Sunset and sunrise reflections on the water were absolutely stunning and I must have taken hundreds of photos as well as attempting lots of sketches and watercolour paintings. As an artist, my mission was to collect information and memories to create bigger paintings in oil and acrylic on my return home. It was so difficult to know where to start as the scenery was so stunningly beautiful. I shall never forget the trip for the visual experience and more importantly for the kindness, enthusiasm and professionalism of the crew who so clearly love what they do. I recommend everyone to book a cruise on the immaculately comfortable and beautifully designed Emma Jane. In fact, I am seriously considering trying the other two boats run by the family-owned cruise company. Memories will linger forever of this magical experience and I can't thank all the staff enough for my time in Scotland.
